1. Fund Overview

As part of FUSO's 70th anniversary commemorative project, FUSO established the FUSO Innovative Technology Fund to provide grants to individuals, groups, and corporations engaged in technological development in businesses for water, environment, and energy, and to recognize their activities and achievements.

2. Fund Objective

The purpose of the FUSO Innovative Technology Fund is to contribute to the construction of a safe and secure society and the happiness of the people of Japan through the conservation of the natural environment, with a focus on water environments, as well as energy conservation and energy efficiency, thereby contributing to the creation of a safe and secure society. To achieve this, the Fund provides grants and support for research, technology development, and product development in water-related businesses, including water treatment technology and water infrastructure facilities, as well as in environmental and energy businesses.

3. Application Guidelines

1. Eligible Grant Fields Research and activities related to water projects, the environment, and energy
2. Eligible Applicants Individuals, organizations, and corporations with offices and contact information in Japan
3. Grant Amount Total planned grants: 10 million yen (maximum 1 million yen per grant)
Number of grants in FY2023: 11
4. Eligible Expenses Eligible expenses are those necessary for the implementation of the grant project. 
Projects should use the accounts ordinarily used for the respective organization.
5. Eligible Research Period for Grants Research periods eligible for grant funding are until March of the year following the signing of the grant agreement. (Please see "7. Grant Project Flow.") 
Themes selected in previous years may be used for applications in years after a grant is received, as long as the research in the new application includes different content. Selection will start over based on the given year's process and conditions. (Please see "8. Selection Method.")
6. Application Method 1. Documents for Submission
Please fill out the application form below and send it to the Fund secretariat. 
Please submit one copy of the grant application form (using Form 1). 
*Please also send the submitted documents by e-mail (PDF format). 
Please note that the submitted documents will not be returned. 
2. Research Expense Category Distribution
The maximum amount of research expenses per expense category is as follows, and diversion between expense categories should be no more than 50% of the expense amount. 
・Equipment and fixtures: 90% or less
・Travel expenses: 35% or less
・Other expenses: 30% or less
3. Application Period
August 1, 2024 to September 30, 2024 (must arrive no later than September 30, 2024)
7. Grant Project Flow The flow from application to selection, decision, and payment for a selected grant project is as follows. 

・Grant application deadline: September 30, 2024 (application arrival cutoff)
・Selection: November 2024
・Notification of selection results: December 2024
・Signing of grant agreement: After January 1, 2025

・Grant payment and implementation: Until March 31, 2026
・Submission of completion report: April 2026

8. Selection Method The selection will be made by the Research Grant Selection Committee. 
2. During the selection process, applicants may be asked to provide an explanation of their activities, etc. 
3. Applicants will be notified of the selection results in early December. Selected applicants will be notified of the decision and receive documents for grant payment procedures. No notification will be given for projects that are not selected. 
4. Applications for research topics not in line with the scope of the Fund's grant will not be considered. 
The reasons for selection will not be disclosed, and we will not respond to any inquiries regarding this matter.
9. Selection Criteria 9. Selection Criteria
Selection will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of the research objectives and plans based on the following perspectives. 
・Consistency with grant area
・Scientific contribution
・Social contribution
・Diffusibility
・Innovation/novelty
10. Grant Payment 1. The timing and method of grant payment will be determined in consultation with the applicant at the time the grant decision is made. 
2. When grant money is paid, the applicant is required to submit a letter of acknowledgment as described in 11.1 below. 
3. Grants paid do not need to be returned, except in the cases described in 11.6 below. 
4. Please note that indirect expenses are not eligible for the grant.
11. Letter of Acknowledgment The contents of the letter acknowledgment to be submitted by the applicant or research executor at the time of grant payment are as follows. 
1. For research grants, in accordance with the information listed in the Grant Application Form. 
2. If it becomes necessary to make any changes to the above information in the course of conducting the grant research, the Fund must be notified promptly for discussion. 
3. When the grant research is completed, a report on the completion of the research shall be submitted to the Fund within 90 days. 
4. Grant project stakeholders shall be open to discussions with the Fund on the licensing of industrial property rights as a result of the grant research from the perspective of promoting the dissemination and utilization of the research results. 
5. When publishing a paper or other publication on the grant research, said document must clearly state that the research was supported by the Fund. 
6. Grant money must be returned if the researching entity fails to conduct the research described in the Grant Application Form. 
7. The researching entity must keep books of account, distinguish the accounting for grant research from other accounting, and respond to inquiries from the Fund when requested. 
8. If the Fund requests a visit to the research facility, this shall be accommodated to the extent possible. 
9. The research must be conducted in a manner that ensures the health and safety of research participants and related personnel, and must be able to be carried out within the grant period. 
10. Successful applicants must agree to the public release of the grant project's representative's name, affiliation, research topic, and research outline for the grant research on the Fund's website.
12. Handling of Personal Information Personal information provided by the applicant will not be provided to any third party without prior consent, except as required by law.
